Epidemiology / Épidémiologie Effects of crop rotation and tillage on blackleg disease of canola

چکیده
The effects of a 4-year crop rotation and two tillage systems on blackleg (Leptosphaeria maculans) disease of canola were determined in a field experiment carried out from 1999 through 2002 at Carman, Manitoba. Crops in rotation were canola (Brassica napus) (C), wheat (Triticum aestivum) (W), and flax (Linum usitatissimum) (F). Rotations were done under conventional tillage (T) or zero-till (Z) systems. Diseased stem incidence and severity were assessed. Diseased stem incidence and severity in 2001 and 2002 were significantly lower when canola was rotated with wheat, and rotated with wheat and flax under both tillage systems. The CCCCT rotation had a higher disease incidence than CWCCT, CWFCT, and CCWCT rotations, which were not significantly different from each other. Zerotill plots had significantly greater diseased stem incidence and severity than tilled plots, with or without rotation. Tillage reduced the disease when it was performed with a simple-crop rotation; however, the effect was reduced with a two-crop rotation. The results suggest that an appropriate rotation and tillage strategy could be effective in reducing the severity of blackleg of canola in farmers’ fields.

Dynamics of infection by Leptosphaeria maculans on canola (Brassica napus) as influenced by crop rotation and tillage
This study, intending to understand the effects of crop rotation and tillage on blackleg disease, was conducted in a field at Carman, Manitoba, Canada, from 1999 – 2002. Canola, wheat and flax were among the rotated crops. Rotations were performed under conventional or zero-till conditions. The number of infected plants, infected leaves per plant, lesions per plant, and percentage of leaf cover...
متن کاملBest Management Practices for Blackleg Disease of Canola
Blackleg disease of canola in western Canada has been effectively managed for the past 20 years through a combination of resistant varieties, adequate crop rotation intervals and good agronomics. Increased canola production in western Canada, in large measure through more frequent cropping in the rotation, has increased the risk that resistance to blackleg in current varieties may be defeated. ...

T description of work in refs 206 and 207 was incorrect. Although glyphosate was applied to fields/crops prior to wheat or barley, GR soybean was not in the rotation. Canola was one rotation crop that preceded wheat or barley, but the authors were not sure if it was GR or not (although it is likely based on the statement that the canola was sprayed with glyphosate in ref 207). The paragraph wit...

Physical, chemical and biological attributes of soil surface are significantly affected by tillage practices and crop rotation. The objective of this study was to determine the short-term (2006-2009) effects of conventional and conservational tillage practices on selected soil physical properties of a heavy clay soil under two wheat-corn and wheatlegume rotation in a semi-arid Mediterranean...
متن کاملBlackleg (Leptosphaeria maculans) Severity and Yield Loss in Canola in Alberta, Canada
Blackleg, caused by Leptosphaeria maculans, is an important disease of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) in Canada and throughout the world. Severe epidemics of blackleg can result in significant yield losses. Understanding disease-yield relationships is a prerequisite for measuring the agronomic efficacy and economic benefits of control methods. Field experiments were conducted in 2013, 2014, a...
